A Month of Spiritual Dryness
For the entire month of May, I was in a state of spiritual dryness. I even wrote about how to overcome it in a previous article. I stuck to what I wrote — I prayed, I sought after the Lord, I read my Bible almost daily — but nothing was happening inside my heart.
I felt flat in my faith. I felt empty. I felt alone. I begged God to be present in me.
There were moments when the old me tried to creep back in, and I did everything I could to resist becoming the person I used to be.
God Is Greater Than Our Feelings
During my Scripture reading, I came across this verse:
“Even if we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and He knows everything.” 1 John 3:20
I reflected on this for quite some time.
I realized that human nature makes us feel guilty, happy, sad, or distant — but God is not limited by our feelings. God is all‑knowing, and we must continue to know God for Him to remain active in our lives.
I was limiting myself to how I felt about God. That feeling motivated me to work for God — to start this blog, to speak truth, to pray more, to worship, to read Scripture, to draw closer to the Holy Spirit.
But when I didn’t feel any of this, I shut down. My motivation faded. My confidence in God weakened.
It’s Not About Feeling God — It’s About Knowing Jesus Christ
Reflecting back on May, I realized I depended too much on feeling God. When the feeling disappeared, so did my confidence and focus.
I let the world affect me. I watched more TV. I paid attention to worldly events. I focused on myself and what I wanted. I became more distant from God than ever since being renewed.
Then I read Paul’s words:
“Everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord… I become righteous through faith in Christ.” Philippians 3:8–9
Paul reveals the mystery of faith: Faith is not a feeling — faith is knowing Jesus Christ.
Feelings come and go. Knowledge stays and lasts forever.
My lack of connection with God came from relying on feelings instead of knowing Jesus Christ personally. My faith depended on my heart instead of depending on Christ Himself.
Watch Out for Your Own Heart
In my last article, I quoted Jeremiah:
“The heart is deceitful above all things…” Jeremiah 17:9–10
My heart led me into disconnection with God. When I felt a lack of God, my heart deceived me — and quietly let the enemy back in.
I took my focus off God and let other concerns consume me:
- finances
- looking for a new home
- job worries
- family concerns
- health issues
I didn’t give these issues to God. I tried to deal with them myself. I focused on myself instead of Jesus Christ.
I write this to encourage you: Know God. Know Jesus Christ. Don’t rely on feelings — they can be deceived.
If you’re experiencing spiritual dryness, continue your faith. Continue to pray. Continue to seek God in all areas of your life.
The devil wants you to stop. The devil wants you to lose. Don’t let him.
Press On Moving Forward
Paul writes:
“I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize…” Philippians 3:12–14
I dwelled on my spiritual dryness for a month. I looked at it instead of looking forward. I was stuck in a trap of trying to fix my connection with God through feelings.
Paul inspires us to move forward — not backward. Don’t dwell on dryness. Seek the eternal living water of Jesus Christ.
Let Christ revive your faith by seeking Him and knowing Him. God is not looking for perfection — He is looking for faith.
Faith comes from knowing Jesus Christ.
How to Press On With Your Faith
1. Don’t Dwell on the Past
Dryness will hold you down if you stare at it. Look forward to God — not backward at your feelings.
2. Know Jesus Christ
Know Him through the Gospel. Speak to Him in prayer as a friend. Let Jesus take control of your issues. This builds trust — and strengthens faith.
3. Keep Your Eyes on the Heavenly Prize
You live for Christ. You serve God. The prize is eternal salvation in the Kingdom of Heaven.
The devil schemes to distract you — be mindful of his traps. Never let go of your faith.
4. You Must Want Jesus Christ
This is key. You must want Jesus in your life.
If you don’t, you will remain stuck in dryness. Peter stepped out of the boat and walked on water because he wanted Jesus more than the storm.
Want Jesus. Seek Jesus. Know Jesus.
Your faith will grow beyond the storm of dryness.

Thank you!
Reflection: Where have you relied on feelings instead of knowing Christ? What distractions pull your heart away from God?
Prayer: “Lord Jesus, help me know You more deeply. Strengthen my faith beyond feelings, revive my spirit, and guide me through every season of dryness. Amen.”
